More than a million dollars of Commonwealth funding is earmarked for Western Australia’s schools to make up for the lack of funding this financial year.
The grant package will be rolled out over the next three years to improve schools’ financial and human capital outcomes.
In 2018-19, $3.9 million of the funding was given to 13 schools and community and cultural centres, including the Australian National University.
Another $3 million of Commonwealth funds is to be distributed through the state’s schools, community, and cultural funding pool.
A further $2.5 million will be allocated for community and community-based service programs, and $2 million for student support services.
About 1,400 scholarships and grants will also be available to students.
Schools will be eligible to apply for the grants if they meet certain criteria, including a school’s overall financial and operational performance and student satisfaction.
“We are continuing to work hard to support our students and schools through this challenging time,” Mr Nettleton said.
Mr Nettlett said the grants would provide a significant boost to schools and students.
“Our students need to feel confident in the future, to be able to plan for the future and prepare for the next year.”
They will benefit from the opportunities we provide for students and staff.
